Lifelike Dolls Magazine is a reborning and sculpting magazine that is published bi-monthly. We accept submissions from reborn artists, sculptors, collectors and writers from around the world.

We are always looking for the following:

  • Doll Artists - all kinds, reborn, OOAK, cloth, etc. - include a 500-1000 word biography that includes how/why/when you started making dolls, what you make, favourites, any cute or funny stories about your art, any accomplishments, awards, etc. and what your future goals are...along with some photos of you work (see below for photo guidelines) and your contact information including website and/or ebay ID
  • Fantasy/Character/Portrait Artists - 300-800 word bio about that specific type of doll art and yourself as a doll artist, including much of the same information as above, with pictures
  • Collectors - 300-800 word bio about when/why you started collecting dolls, what type of collection you have, what you look for in a doll, any cute or funny stories, etc, along with a photo of yourself (optional) and your dolls
  • Articles about anything doll related
  • Tutorials - self made tutorials that explain and show in detail the steps to achieve a specific look or technique. Photos required.
  • Gallery Photos - Artists of all different skill levels and experience are invited to submit photos for our gallery pages.
  • Patterns - knit, crochet, sewn patterns that are designed by the submitter and not copyrighted to anyone. Please include a photo of the finished piece.
  • Fun Stuff - puzzles, riddles, jokes, games - anything that is not copyrighted that you think fellow doll enthusiasts would enjoy.
  • The Many Faces of.... - the subject matter changes with each issue, but it is always a showcase of talent for a specific kit

August/September '09 submissions are due by June 5th. We are looking for:

  • Photos of Reborned Ariella dolls
  • Photos of Primates (reborned or sculpted)
  • Instructions for making an umbilical cord
  • Tutorials on painting fingernails and toenails
  • Pattern of any kind

Photograph Requirements:

  • Photos must be at least 300 dpi. The best way to ensure this is to send the original picture size right from your camera.
  • No borders, embellishments, etc.
  • Gallery pictures are displayed as a portrait, not showcasing specific skill sets like a rooting shot.
  • Photos must be sent as an attachment and they must be in JPG, TIFF or PDF format.

All Submissions must include the following:

  • Artist name and Nursery Name
  • Website and Ebay ID, if applicable
  • A clear subject line explaining what your submission is for
  • When possible, a description of the kits used in your photos

What to Expect After Submitting:

  • Since we get many submissions, it may be months before your submission is used, if at all. If you are selected for an artist article, you will be contacted in advance and you will be asked for more information and/or photos.

  • Articles may or may not be used. All submissions and articles are likely to be edited for content and length. Writers are notified prior to their articles being printed.
  • Tutorials are used with the artist's consent and he/she is notified in advance.
  • Gallery submissions happen randomly and you will not be notified if your doll is appearing in the gallery
  • Fun stuff submissions and "The Many Faces of..." submissions are used randomly and there is no notification prior to use.

All submissions can be sent to lifelikedolls@gmail.com or editor@lifelikedollsmag.com. The gmail address seems to be the more reliable one at this time.

What is a Reborn Doll?

A reborn doll is a lifelike doll that has been created from a play doll or a doll kit.

The art of creating reborn dolls involves painting layers and layers of paint to create a realistic skin tone, including characteristics such as veining and shadows in the creases. They have soft hair rooted into their heads to appear as if it is growing naturally, and they are weighted and stuffed to create a cuddly and true to life feeling. A reborn baby doll’s head must be supported just like a real newborn infant!

Each reborn doll is an artist creation and has it’s own unique qualities. These four dimensional portraits are not play dolls, but pieces of art to be cherished and admired for years to come.
